For inquiry two I have a couple movies in mind. I'm considering sticking with Shawshank Redemption which I worked with for inquiry 1 because it's one of my favorite and has a lot to talk about. I'm also thinking about working with the movie Rain Man. I'm not sure what exactly I would talk about with this movie and it may be a bit more challenging but again it is another great movie and a favorite of mine.
The feedback I got from peers really helped me in my revision process. I wasn't really sure how to conclude my inquiry one and they gave me good advice on how to bring my paper to an end. I also got some really good advice on how to better organize my paragraphs and make the paper flow a bit better. This helped me out a lot because I've noticed in my writing that I have good points and ideas but don't always organize my papers in the best ways. Another useful piece of advice I received was to elaborate on and incorporate Andy's quote of "Get busy livin' or get busy dyin'" to help show my theme of hope and how it was the driving force behind Andy Dufresne's escape. Along with these helpful hints I got some positive feedback on certain choices I made in my paper that I wasn't 100% sure worked but I now feel more confident in the choices I made.
The outline for my paper will be structured as shown below: Opening Paragraph: . Explain that I analyzed The Shawshank Redemption . Set the tone of my paper, and show that hope was the driving force of the movie as well as my paper Bod: Paragraph one : .Andy doing the guard's and warden's taxes .Explain importance .Explain their symbolism .Introduce the idea of Andy restoring hope in other and explain how this is an example of this Paragraph two : .Andy Playing music over loud speaker in entire prison .Explain importance .Explain symbolism .Explain how this represents restoring hope in others Paragraph three: .Andy's Polished rocks .Explain their importance .Explain their symbolism to the overall theme of hope Paragraph four: .Rita Hayworth Poster .Explain importance .Explain symbolism .Explain foreshadowing .Explain how it aided Andy's escape and how hope was his driving force Paragraph Five: .Specific scene analysis .Set the scene .Explain what happens .Analyze scene in relation to the theme of hope .Explain importance .Explain symbolism Conclusion: .Wrap up all previous points .Explain again how hope was the driving force behind the movie and Andy's escape . I think that the inquiry 1 by Maisie Laud "Soft Rain on a Hot Mind" on page 145 of CCM was very well written and helped me with my own inquiry 1. I wasn't sure exactly how to start my paper but I though the opening sentence and paragraph of Laud's paper really did a great job of explaining what her claim was, a quick overview of why she thinks this and what you can expect to read later in her paper. Also, she does all of this while still making the reader interested and wanting to read more. I think the opening paragraph is what stood out to me most because that's the part I was struggling with and after reading this it really helped me get a sense of how to start my paper without being boring and just simply saying, "I chose to analyze blah blah."
I've chosen to analyze and review the movie, Shawshank Redemption. I chose this movie because it's been a favorite of mine for a long time and I've watched it many times and thought that I would enjoy digging a little deeper into this movie. In researching some background on the movie I came across the court case of Sam Holmes Sheppard, an American Physician, who was convicted of killing his wife in 1954 later to be acquitted. The main character of Andy Dufresne is in a similar situation as the movie starts out with him being convicted of murdering his wife and pleading his innocence. I plan to explore the court case more and see if there are any more similarities between the two men and their experiences.
